Well, I’ve only gotten a few pages through my book. But I am enjoying it. Although, so far it’s very romantic...I mean, lovey, guy and girl romantic. That’s OK for a bit, but I can’t relate to an entire book of it. But so many people say the books great...I'll stick with it. Mark likes the time traveling idea – for what it’s worth.
First thing to say is for what ever reason, as I read the entire first four chapters I was sure the author was male. Now I think she’s female. That makes a big difference for me...I don’t know why. If she’s female, I am more scrupulous as to how she writes the male character, and visa versa. I've noticed that Henry notices how Clare smells...clearly and specifically. You can correct me if I am wrong, but I’m not sure that this is realistic. Maybe it’s a way for the author to give some sensory information to the reader, but I’m not sure a 28 year old man (and one with a very messy apartment) even when in love, would be able to identify four specific smells like that... I’m referring to pg 18 in the elevator – “old cloth, soap, sweat and fur”- again, you can correct me if I am wrong, but it seems to be making this guy into a real heart throb, just for reader gratification when they get together...maybe I’m jaded....
Anyways, lots of comments on the book. I'll keep ‘em coming., just for my own intellectual stimulation, and typing practice (I’ve gotten better haven't I?)..for those of you who haven't read it, sorry about the spoilers.
